Localhost New Tab
Privacy policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
Short version: everything stays on your computer. Localhost New Tab has no server, no analytics, no tracking, no ads and no account. Nothing is sent to the developer or to any third party.
What the extension stores, and where
- Project history: folder path, project name, framework, ports and timestamps of dev servers you have run. Stored by the local helper in
~/.localhost-new-tab/state.jsonon your machine. - Start commands and logs: the command used to start a project and its output, stored in
~/.localhost-new-tab/. - Page previews and favicons: screenshots of your localhost pages and their icons, stored in Chrome's local extension storage on your device.
What the extension can access
- Only pages on
http://localhostandhttp://127.0.0.1. It cannot read, capture or modify any other website. - Through the local helper: the list of listening network ports on your computer and the folders of the processes behind them, so it can show and control your dev servers.
What the extension never does
- Transmit any data off your device
- Sell, share or transfer data to anyone
- Use data for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness or lending
- Read your browsing history or pages outside localhost
Deleting your data
Remove a project from the list with "Remove from list" in its menu. To delete everything, uninstall the extension (this clears its local storage). Chrome then opens a page with one command that removes the helper and the ~/.localhost-new-tab folder. That page is static and receives no data about you.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date. The extension will never start collecting data without a new version and a clear notice.
